Black Magick Volume 1: Awaking Part One
By Greg Rucka
I received a free copy of Black Magick Volume 1: Awaking Part One for my honest opinion.
Black Magick Volume 1 collects issues #1 – #5 of the new series by Greg Rucka. Black Magick was definitely not what I was expecting. Not that it was bad, the story was quite interesting and it ended on a very interesting point and I interesting as to how it is going to continue.
I have not seen an art style like the one used in Black Magick before, but then again I have not read too many comics and graphic novels so chances are that it does exist out their somewhere else. It is done purely in black and white, with a few of the elements being in colour to highlight aspects of the panels, but you could count on one hand the amount of times that colour is used.
Like I said earlier, the story line is quite interesting, but it is a slow-burning one. The use of magic is minimal and the way that it is used keeps you wondering what is going on behind the scenes in Portsmouth.
Overall very interesting but go in with the right expectations and it will be an entertaining read.
This graphic novel contains material not suitable for younger readers.
