The Lightning Thief Graphic Novel
By Rick Riordan, Adapted by Robert Venditti, Art by Attila Futaki, Colour by José Villarrubia
I have always thought that graphic novels adaptations were the best way to get into graphic novels. Unfortunately, this graphic novel adaptation does not do the original novel justice.
For me, the main reason why I did not enjoy this adaptation is that it does not capture any of the things that I love about Percy Jackson and his world. Both the art style and the wording used (even though the words were taken straight from the book) were unable to capture the little quirks that make Percy great.
The art style chosen just was not nice in all honesty. I know that Percy Jackson is a middle grade book series, but does that really mean you have to draw the adaptation like a middle grader drew it? I have seen plenty of comic books aimed at younger audiences with amazing artwork.
