Red Harvest
By Joe Schreiber
A Zombie-Horror Star Wars book? Now i have read everything!
Red Harvest is set in 3645BBY (before the destruction of the First Death Star). Red Harvest is meant to explain how to virus in Death Troopers came to be. Personally i found it a tad weird the premises of it, but at the same time it made complete sense. By having Darth Scabrous wanting to become immortal, much like Emperor Palpatine, i found it extremely easy to understand the Sith thinking.
Schreiber included way too many points of view for Red Harvest to be an understandable read, or for you to be able to fully understand each characters motivations, apart from Darth Scabrous.
The Sith students were extremely weak, not serving much purpose, apart from becoming zombies. They did not feel like how Sith have been described in other books. Also i believe that Red Harvest ended in the wrong place. I know that it is a prequel to Death Troopers, but i would have enjoyed it more if it had a more stand-alone feel to it.
I did not get emotionally attached to any characters, with Red Harvest also being quite predictable at times.
I would not recommend Red Harvest to younger readers as it might be a tad too gory for them. Still an interesting read.
3/5
